Public Literacy Projects

PhilotimoNOW is engaged with Greek villages to foster community literacy.

PhilotimoNOW works closely with Greek villages to foster community literacy and create meaningful opportunities for learning at all ages. Through book donations, library development, and educational programs, we aim to nurture a love of reading, support lifelong learning, and strengthen the cultural fabric of each community.

Our commitment extends beyond literacy: we are dedicated to preventing brain drain, encouraging local engagement, and revitalizing Greek rural communities by empowering residents with knowledge, resources, and opportunities to grow.

CURRENT PROJECTS

Diavolitsi Community Literacy & Cultural Arts Center

PhilotimoNOW is working to prevent brain drain and revitalize the village of Diavolitsi by establishing a dedicated community literacy and arts center. This center will serve as a vibrant hub for reading, cultural activities, and educational programs, fostering creativity, learning, and community engagement for residents of all ages.

We are collaborating closely with City Mayor Olga Bourani to identify and designate a suitable building for this project. Once completed, the center will provide a welcoming space for students, families, and local organizations to come together, explore new ideas, and celebrate Greek culture, while supporting the village’s long-term growth and vitality.

Books & Benches Literacy Garden

PhilotimoNOW is transforming the gardens of the Church of St. Panteleimon in Diavolitsi into the Books & Benches Literacy Garden. The project is being developed in partnership with acclaimed Greek landscape architect and designer Marios Grogkos, founder of Greenplus+.

Known for his sustainable, Mediterranean-inspired designs, Grogkos brings expertise in ecological landscaping, native plant integration, and award-winning outdoor environments to the project.

Through this initiative, PhilotimoNOW seeks to create a welcoming literacy and cultural space that celebrates community, heritage, learning, and connection across generations.

Support the Project

With your help, this garden will become a lasting space where books, reflection, and fellowship can flourish for generations to come. Join us in bringing the Books & Benches Literacy Garden to life through a donation that will help create meaningful educational and cultural experiences for future generations.
