Academic Opportunities

Academic Projects establish experiential learning programs with colleges and universities, fostering student engagement and enhancing global impact.

Academic Literacy Projects

PhilotimoNow supports graduate scholars in addressing Greek brain drain.

PhilotimoNOW is committed to creating academic experiential learning opportunities that connect education with real-world needs. We welcome project recommendations and insights from educators, communities, and partners who recognize opportunities for meaningful, hands-on learning experiences.

If you are aware of a need, have a project idea, or would like to collaborate on an experiential learning initiative, we encourage you to reach out. Together, we can develop projects that foster critical thinking, cultural understanding, and lasting impact for students and communities.

Experiential Learning Projects

Bringing Philotimo to Life Through Dance

PhilotimoNOW partnered with Shenandoah University to integrate the values of Philotimo into a course offered by Shenandoah Conservatory’s Division of Dance. This collaboration inspired an original contemporary dance piece, blending movement with meaning.

The production also featured voiceover narration by Greek actors from Koilon Productions (Athens, Greece).

The course culminated in a Global Experiential Learning (GEL) trip to Greece, where students performed in Kalamourida (Ikaria), Diavolitsi (Peloponnese), and Karystos (Evia), sharing the spirit of Philotimo through art and culture.

“This expansive learning experience was developed with PhilotimoNOW director and founder Athena Michael, who helped our students to internalize the values of Philotimo and create dance moments for a Greek audience.

Shenandoah Conservatory Dance Division Chair and Associate Professor of Dance Maurice Fraga, M.F.A.

“Working as a collaborative team was a pleasure, and none greater than with Koilon Productions of Athens. We spoke about the essence of each poem, as well as the feelings evoked from the movement. Koilon company members recorded the poems in Greek, which were included in the performance. This brought our worlds together on an even deeper spiritual and artistic level.”
